Forza Milan!

This morning I went to my church's bible study on Wall Street. After that, I completely changed gears and went to a sports bar in NoHo.

My favorite club, AC Milan, was playing Arsenal in a soccer Champions League knockout round. I donned red and black to show my support for the Rossoneri. I thought this game would be a good opportunity to try out a sports bar in NYC. I want to find the perfect spot to enjoy Euro Cup 2008. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be going back here.

There were no chairs. So I stood for 90+ minutes. It was so unbelievably crowded that I couldn't even get to the bar to order a drink. And I could really have used a drink today.

The bar has 2 rows of TVs on either side of the room. and they showed 2 different games at the same time!!! It was so frustrating. Fans for both games were all packed in together. So you'd be hearing people around you cheer or groan. And then of course you have to turn around and see what's going on in the other game.

Arsenal is an English team and there's a reason why English soccer hooligans have such a bad reputation. Their fans were all drunk (the game started at 2:45 in the afternoon. Seriously, who is drunk at 2:45? that's just wrong) They didn't seem to have a lot of interest in the game. They just shouted a lot of obscenities.

And, then, to add insult to injury, Milan lost. oh well. I'm home now. And I'm going to wear my fabulous red and black outfit to my Hebrew class tonight. Thanks to New York city's smoking ban, I didn't have to throw my clothes straight into the laundry hamper. I suppose that's one good thing. Let's hear it for the nanny state!
