room with a view II

So this is another part of the grand view of my 13th story apartment.

The pagoda-ish thing in the background is a concert venue.

The ruin in the front is what's left of the Anhalter Banhof, which apparently - before American bombs got the better of it- was one of the world's largest train stations. It used to stretch back all the way to the pagoda.

Yes, that is a soccer field in between. And German guys are playing the beautiful game at all hours. Don't worry. I won't be tempted to spend all my time gazing out the window, following the action on the pitch. Let's just say this is not exactly Manchester United out there. This morning the goalie of one of the teams was laying on the ground for an extended period while the game was in progress. so weird!

I live in a very Communist-looking grey apartment complex. The hallways smell like beer, but I have a cute, small studio apartment. (Photos to be posted once I've cleaned up my suitcases). The best thing about it is the huge windows which run all along one of the walls. So it's got lots of light, and I have pale yellow curtains. The location is unbeatable - about a 5 minute walk from the Brandenberger Tor.

My neighborhood is called "Kreuzberg." My guide book says its a "hotbed of immigrant communities, political activism, and alternative lifestyles." I'll fit right in. NOT!
