Eternal Sunshine of a Day in Manhattan

Yesterday was the perfect New York spring day. I left my house at around 10am and made my way to the Financier Patisserie in the Financial District - as I do every Tuesday. This was the first time that the weather was good enough for me to sit out on their terrace. I enjoyed my medium regular coffee, tiny madeleine, and New York Times next to a clutch of yellow tulips and a small fountain.

After about an hour and a half, I made my way over to Trinity Place for my Bible Study. That was great and insightful as usual. I then hopped on the 1 train to Greenwich Village. For lunch, I had a toasted bagel on a park bench in a sunny square. I could have sat there forever observing the stylish, artistic outfits of the people walking by.

Eventually, I headed over to the Red Lion Pub to watch Chelsea v. Liverpool in the Champions League. I love that pub! It was full, but not overcrowded. The people were all very civilized about their support for their teams. No drunken hooliganism (unlike that sports bar in SoHo I visited last month.)

After the game, it was time to go home to Brooklyn. All that sun had given me quite a headache, so I accidentally took the wrong train. I think my detour tacked an extra 45 minutes on the trip.

I got home and found that a large bouquet of flowers had been delivered for me. Rather a pleasant thing to come home to, don't you think?

I had some more coffee, and then made my official Dutch radio debut as a commentator on the Pennsylvania primaries. I droned on and on about how all the scandals of the last 6 weeks have horribly and irreparably damaged Obama's campaign, but oh well. I'm still going to vote for him in November.

It was a call-in show, so I got to listen and respond to the opinions of the average Dutch person. yay. One lady called in to say that America has been run by whites long enough and should be handed over to blacks and latinos for awhile. I could have said, "we've been running the place all this time because there's more of us. suck it up." but instead I tried to sound all Obama-ish and said, "hmmm....well, we can have a long discussion about the way things should be. but right now let's focus on the way things are."

All in all, a very enjoyable experience, and I hope I'll get to do it again sometime. As you can imagine, by then I was exhausted and went to bed. whew! Life comes at you fast.
