My cousins Jan and Titi and their mom, my great aunt, came to visit me in Utrecht.

We dined al fresco in the lovely house where I first stayed when I moved to Utrecht. We visited my 95-year old great aunt at her house boat in Lelystad.

My brother Nick came to visit. We sat on a terrace by the canal.

The sorry state of Dutch medical insurance

The following is a transcript of an actual phone conversation I had with a representative from my insurance company this afternoon.

Emma: Good afternoon. I'm calling with a question regarding a bill for my recent dental treatment. I've sent the bill on to your offices to be processed and I'm wondering when I'll be reimbursed.

Insurance company representative: Are you insured with our company?

Emma: Yes, that's why I'm calling.
